Grok Bot phone Calls hub: what it can dial, a six-line call brief, and how to stay inside the rules (unofficial guide)
Yes — when Calls is available on your account, Grok Bot can place outbound phone calls to real numbers. Official confirmation is Grok Bot Terms §2.7 (updated Oct 31, 2026): "Grok Bot may place or receive phone calls on Customer's behalf." That is not voice chat with your Bot (docs.x.ai/grok-bot/mobile). As of Nov 4, 2026, docs.x.ai has no Calls setup page and the public changelog still has no Calls release note (v0.78.1) — check your app for availability.

The short answer
Yes — when Calls is on for your account, Grok Bot can place outbound calls to real phone numbers. The official confirmation is Grok Bot Terms §2.7 (Phone Calls, updated Oct 31, 2026): "Grok Bot may place or receive phone calls on Customer's behalf." Elon Musk's Oct 25, 2026 post describes the call → request → notes → summary loop.
No for a different feature people confuse with Calls: docs.x.ai/grok-bot/mobile covers voice chat and dictation with your own Bot, plus reading contacts on your phone — that is not PSTN dialing to someone else.
As of Nov 4, 2026, docs.x.ai still has no Calls setup page (countries, plans, limits), and the public changelog is still v0.78.1 (Oct 27) with no Calls release note. Availability is account-by-account while the feature rolls out — check your app.
Binding rules in Terms §2.7: you are the caller of record; call only people who agreed to hear from you; no marketing or mass calls; Calls disclose they are a virtual assistant and may be recorded; Calls cannot reach emergency services.

What Calls can do (and what they must not)
May, within the Terms and your local law: ask a business you already deal with for account information; request a quote or re-quote; negotiate a bill or retention offer you asked for; cancel a service that only accepts phone cancellations; chase a refund or return you already started; book a reservation or appointment with a place that takes phone bookings; return notes and a summary so you decide the next step.
Must not: cold-call leads; run marketing or mass dials; call people who did not agree to hear from you; pretend to be a human when the disclosure would say otherwise; disable the virtual-assistant disclosure; dial emergency services; use Calls for fraud, harassment, or impersonation.
Money and contracts stay behind your Allow. Ask the Bot to pause before it commits to a price, signs anything, or authorizes a charge. That matches the product's broader approval model for irreversible actions.
Voice chat is different: docs.x.ai describes Start voice chat as a live spoken conversation with your own Bot. That is not placing a PSTN call to someone else.
The six-line call brief
Before any dial, fill these six lines and require an approval card. The free Call Brief SKILL.md on this page embeds the same template.
1. Who: [business or person] · [exact number you provide] · [account or confirmation if any].
2. Consent: [why they may hear from you / existing customer relationship]. Do not dial if this line is empty.
3. Goal: [one sentence]. Success: [facts to collect]. Failure: [when to hang up].
4. Disclose: open as a virtual assistant calling on your behalf. Do not alter or disable that disclosure.
5. Hard stops: no price, plan change, cancellation fee, payment, contract, or extra personal data without your Allow.
6. After: dated summary with who answered, quoted promises, reference numbers, next steps, and decisions still needed from you.
Script for businesses you already deal with
Open: "Hi, this is a virtual assistant calling on behalf of [your name] about account [number if any]."
State one ask only: a coverage fact, a retention offer, cancel-by-phone status, a refund status, or booking details.
Collect: quoted answers, reference numbers, fees, and any deadline. Then close with "I'll bring this back to [you] before anything is confirmed," unless you already Allowed a specific next step.
Split goals across separate briefs. Insurance questions and a cancellation are two calls, not one.
If the business refuses AI callers, hang up, note it, and decide whether you will call yourself.
Transcript checklist
After every call, have the Bot return this checklist (also in the free Call Brief skill):
Date and time · number dialed · who answered · disclosure given (yes/no) · goal met (yes/partial/no) · word-for-word quotes of any promise, price, fee, or deadline · reference or ticket numbers · anything that still needs your Allow · one-line suggested next step · recording or transcript link if the product provides one, otherwise "not available".
A summary in chat is not a contract. Verify important numbers on your next bill, email confirmation, or provider portal.
Rules up front (Terms §2.7)
Caller of record: when your Bot places or receives a call, you are the caller of record, including cellular, landline, telemarketing, robocall, caller ID, and call-recording laws that apply to you (including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act where it applies).
Consent only: call people who agreed to hear from you, and you represent that you have the required consents.
No marketing or mass calling: the Terms ban marketing or mass calls, fraud, harassment, impersonation, emergency services, and other prohibited purposes.
Mandatory disclosure: Calls identify themselves as made by a virtual assistant on your behalf and may be recorded. You may not alter or disable these disclosures.
Provider controls: the provider may honor opt-outs, block numbers or regions, limit or end Calls, and suspend access. Temporary numbers assigned for Calls remain the provider's property and may be reclaimed.
Not a phone service: Calls cannot reach emergency services.
Rollout status (as of Nov 4, 2026)
Announcement: Musk's Oct 25 post describes the call → request → notes → summary loop.
Changelog: x.ai/changelog/bot latest is v0.78.1 (Oct 27, 2026). Rechecked Nov 4, 2026: still no Calls release note.
Docs: docs.x.ai/grok-bot covers voice chat with a Bot. We did not find a Calls setup page that documents menus, countries, plans, or limits.
Terms: x.ai/legal/grok-bot-terms §2.7 is the clearest official Calls policy text available today (updated Oct 31, 2026).
User reports (not official docs): on Nov 2–3, 2026, X user @dkmitc posted that his Bot called Progressive for glass-coverage details while he was unavailable, and shared a recording and transcript with personal info bleeped. On Nov 3, @minchoi reported a doctor's appointment booked while driving; Elon Musk shared it. Treat both as user reports, not guarantees of results or availability. For booking flow, see our appointments guide.
Safety and honest limits
Availability is account-by-account while Calls roll out. Update the app and ask your Bot whether Calls is enabled.
Official docs still don't publish country lists, minute caps, or plan gates for Calls. Ignore unverified limit screenshots until changelog or docs state them.
Recordings and AI disclosure are part of the Terms. Plan for the other party hearing that a virtual assistant is calling.
Keep payments, plan changes, and cancellations that create fees behind an explicit Allow for that step.
This page is not legal advice. Consent and telemarketing rules vary by country and state.
What you need
- A Grok Bot plan that includes Bot, with Calls available on your account (feature is rolling out)
- A phone number you are allowed to call, plus a clear consent basis
- A written six-line call brief with goals, hard stops, and disclosure instructions
- An Ask first / approval habit before dialing and before any payment or contract
Steps
- Confirm Calls is available on your account. If your Bot says it isn't, stop and wait for the rollout.
- Read Grok Bot Terms §2.7. Only proceed if you can name who consented to hear from you and why.
- Fill the six-line call brief (or download the free Call Brief skill below).
- Tell the Bot to present an approval card before dialing, and never to alter the disclosure.
- Approve the dial. Stay reachable for verification codes, PINs, or decisions mid-call.
- Review the transcript checklist. Approve any follow-up that changes a plan, pays money, or cancels service.
- Save a working brief as a skill so the next call starts from the same rules.

I want you to place one phone call for me. First confirm Calls is available on this account. Fill this six-line brief and show me an approval card before dialing. 1) Who: [name/business], [number I provide], [account if any]. 2) Consent: [why they agreed to hear from me / existing customer]. 3) Goal: [one sentence]. Success: [facts]. Failure: [when to hang up]. 4) Disclose at the start that you are a virtual assistant calling on my behalf; do not alter that disclosure. 5) Hard stops: do not agree to prices, plan changes, cancellations, payments, or contracts without my explicit Allow for that step. 6) After the call, return the transcript checklist: date/time, who answered, disclosure given, goal met, quoted promises, reference numbers, decisions still needed, and any recording/transcript link. Never use this for marketing or mass calling.
Tips
- Put standing Call rules in the Bot's description: consent only, always disclose, never commit money without Allow.
- Provide the number yourself. Don't let the Bot scrape random directories for cold outreach.
- One call, one goal. Split insurance questions and cancellation into separate briefs.
- Pair money calls with our Bill Cutter / pay-for-itself guide: research first, call second, verify the next bill.
- Booking by phone belongs with the appointments guide: shortlist, you pick, then read the confirmation back before calling it booked.
- Optional paid pack: five ready-made call skills live at /calls-pack. This hub and the Call Brief skill stay free.
FAQ
Can Grok Bot make phone calls for me?
Yes, when Calls is available on your account. Terms §2.7 say Grok Bot may place or receive phone calls on your behalf. That is not voice chat with your Bot (docs.x.ai/grok-bot/mobile). As of Nov 4, 2026 there is still no Calls setup page in the docs and no Calls entry in the public changelog (v0.78.1) — check your app.
What are the official rules for Grok Bot Calls?
Per Grok Bot Terms §2.7 (updated Oct 31, 2026): you are the caller of record; call only people who agreed to hear from you; no marketing or mass calls; Calls disclose they are a virtual assistant and may be recorded; you can't disable that disclosure; Calls can't reach emergency services.
Is this the same as voice chat?
No. Voice chat is you talking to your Bot in the app. Calls are the Bot dialing someone else. The docs cover voice chat; Calls policy is in the Terms.
Which countries or plans get Calls?
Official changelog and docs we checked on Nov 4, 2026 don't state country lists, plan gates, or minute limits for Calls. Don't rely on unverified social posts for that.
Can I use Calls for sales outreach?
Not for marketing or mass calling. The Terms ban those uses. Stick to people or businesses that agreed to hear from you, such as your own providers.
Is there a free call-brief download?
Yes. The free Call Brief SKILL.md on this page (email signup) has the six-line brief, a script for businesses you already deal with, and a transcript checklist. It never dials or commits money without your Allow. You can also use /free?skill=call-brief.
Did someone's Bot really call Progressive about glass coverage?
That's a user report. On Nov 2, 2026, @dkmitc posted that his Bot called Progressive for glass-coverage details while he was unavailable, and shared a recording and transcript. It isn't an official case study and doesn't prove savings or availability for you.
Is this guide official?
No. Grok Use Cases is an independent, unofficial resource by Tristan Workman. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by xAI, Grok, X, or Cursor, and it isn't legal advice.
