Grok Bot keyboard shortcuts and dictation: the full desktop list, voice typing, and voice chat (unofficial guide)
Every keyboard shortcut in the Grok Bot desktop app, from the official docs as of Oct 24, 2026, plus how dictation (voice typing) differs from a live voice chat. The ones worth learning first: Cmd/Ctrl+K to jump anywhere, Cmd/Ctrl+N for a new chat, Cmd/Ctrl+I to focus the prompt, and Cmd/Ctrl+D to dictate. Voice chat is a button with no shortcut.

The short answer
On Mac use Cmd, and on Windows and Linux use Ctrl, unless a line below says otherwise. Press Cmd/Ctrl+K to open the search palette and jump to any Bot, group, message, file, routine, or setting. Press Cmd/Ctrl+D with the prompt focused to dictate, then edit the text before you send it.
Start voice chat, the live spoken conversation where the Bot talks back, has no keyboard shortcut. It's the waveform button in the message box, and it only shows when the box is empty.

Inside a conversation
Focus the prompt: Cmd/Ctrl+I.
Send: Enter in the composer, or Cmd/Ctrl+Enter from anywhere. New line: Shift+Enter.
Add selected text to the chat: Cmd/Ctrl+L. With nothing selected, it just focuses the prompt.
Find in this chat: Cmd/Ctrl+F.
Conversation details (the pane with the Bot's computer preview and its routines): Cmd+Shift+I or Cmd+Alt+B on Mac, and Ctrl+Alt+B on Windows and Linux.
In the composer, type / to pick a saved skill and @ to mention a Bot, group, routine, or app. These aren't shortcuts in the docs' list, but they're the fastest way to reuse work.
Settings, apps, and the window
Open Settings: Cmd/Ctrl+, (comma).
Toggle the current Bot's settings: Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+, (comma).
Connect apps: Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+M or Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+W.
Zoom in, out, or reset: Cmd/Ctrl+=, Cmd/Ctrl+-, and Cmd/Ctrl+0.
Fullscreen: F11, and on Mac also Control+Cmd+F.
Dictation (voice typing) on desktop and phone
On desktop, choose Start voice input in the message box, or press Cmd/Ctrl+D while the prompt is focused. Speak, then stop, and the app types what you said into the composer so you can edit it before sending. Cursor's help center adds that you can also hold the keys while you talk.
On iPhone and Android, tap Start dictation in the composer. The Bot replies in text, the same as a typed message.
Dictation is the better choice when you want to check the wording first, such as a long brief, a list of names, or anything with numbers.
Voice chat: a live call with one Bot
Open the Bot's chat, leave the message box empty, and choose Start voice chat (the waveform button). Allow microphone access if asked. Desktop shows Connecting… and the phone shows Calling…, then the Bot starts talking.
During the call you can Mute or Unmute, Hang up, Show transcript, and use Show settings to change the Voice, Speed, and Language, where Auto-detect picks the language from what you say. You can open other chats while the call runs and use Return to the voice chat to go back.
Limits from Cursor's help center: voice chat works with one Bot at a time and not in group chats, only one call runs at a time, and on the phone you should stop dictation before starting a call. After you hang up, a Voice chat card in that Bot's chat shows the length and full transcript.
If you see Voice chat failed, check your connection and start again. If microphone access was denied, allow it in your system settings, and to choose which microphone the app uses, open Settings and pick one under Microphone.
What you need
- The Grok Bot desktop app (macOS, Windows, or Linux) for the keyboard shortcuts
- A microphone and microphone permission for dictation and voice chat
- Optional: the Grok Bot phone app (iPhone or Android) for Start dictation and voice chat on the go
Steps
- Learn four shortcuts first: Cmd/Ctrl+K to jump anywhere, Cmd/Ctrl+N for a new chat, Cmd/Ctrl+I to focus the prompt, and Cmd/Ctrl+Enter to send from anywhere.
- Pin your most-used Bots near the top of the sidebar so Cmd/Ctrl+1 to 9 opens them directly.
- Try dictation: focus the prompt, press Cmd/Ctrl+D, say your request, then fix any wording before you send.
- For a back-and-forth conversation, clear the message box and choose Start voice chat instead.
- If the microphone isn't picked up, choose the right one under Microphone in Settings (Cmd/Ctrl+,).
Prompt to copy
I just dictated this, so expect transcription errors: [paste or dictate your request]. First restate what you think I'm asking in one sentence and list any words that look misheard. Then do the task. Don't send, post, or buy anything without asking me first.
Tips
- Dictation is best for long instructions you want to review. Voice chat is best for thinking out loud, and the transcript stays in the chat afterward.
- Cmd/Ctrl+L with text selected drops that text into the prompt, which is quicker than copy and paste when you're quoting part of a reply back to the Bot.
- Control+Tab cycles Bots with Control on every platform, including Mac, which catches Mac users off guard.
- Spell out names, email addresses, and numbers when you dictate, then read them back before anything goes out.
