Grok Bot mobile app: what you can do on iPhone and Android, plus voice chat (unofficial guide)

The Grok Bot app for iPhone (iOS 18+) and Android (9+) connects to the same Bots, conversations, routines, connectors, and cloud computer as desktop. From your phone you can message Bots, dictate, start a live voice chat, approve or discard drafts, take over for logins, and pause routines. Editing and testing routines still needs the desktop app.

What the Grok Bot mobile app can do

Per the official mobile docs, the phone app "connects to the same Bots, conversations, routines, connectors, and shared cloud computer as the desktop app," and work "continues in the cloud when the app is closed." Your phone is a remote control for your Bots. The work itself runs on the Bot's cloud computer.

In a conversation you can send text, dictate with Start dictation, start a live call with Start voice chat, play a voice memo a Bot sent, take or attach a photo, choose an image or file, mention another Bot or @everyone in a group, reply in a thread, and react to a message. Drafts are saved per conversation (docs).

Sharing from other apps: on iPhone, use the share sheet, choose Grok Bot, pick a chat, then choose Attach to drop a photo, file, link, or text into that chat's composer. On Android the share sheet currently accepts text only (docs).

Approvals and drafts: approval cards offer Allow once, Always allow, and Deny, and the docs say the controls are the same on iPhone. When a Bot prepares an email or Slack message, you get a New Email or New Slack Message card with Send Email or Send Message, or Discard.

The computer: open it from a conversation to watch browser work, Take over for a password, two-factor code, or CAPTCHA, then hand control back with I'm done.

Bots, groups, routines, and search: use + on the home screen for New Bot or New Group Chat. A Bot's profile shows its routines with schedule, next run, instruction, and Run history, and the Active switch pauses or resumes a routine. Home-screen search covers Messages, Bots, Group Chats, Files, and Routines.

Voice on your phone: dictation, voice chat, and voice memos

There are three different voice features. Start dictation turns your speech into text in the composer so you can edit it before sending. Start voice chat is a live spoken conversation where the Bot talks back until you hang up. A voice memo is a recording a Bot sends you, with a transcript you can read (docs and Cursor's help center).

To start a call, open one Bot's own chat, leave the message box empty, and tap Start voice chat (the waveform button). Allow microphone access if asked. The phone shows Calling… before the Bot starts talking. During the call you can mute, show the transcript, or open settings to change the Voice, Speed, and Language (Auto-detect picks the language from what you say).

Limits from Cursor's help center: voice chat works with one Bot at a time and not in group chats, only one call runs at a time, and on the phone you should stop dictation before starting a voice chat. If a call drops you'll see Voice chat failed; check your connection and start again.

After you hang up, a Voice chat card in that Bot's chat shows the call length and full transcript. Per xAI's Sep 2026 changelog, if you hang up while the Bot is still working on your request, it finishes and posts the result in the chat.

Grok Voice 3.0, announced Oct 14, 2026, powers Grok Bot's voice mode, per xAI. Voice had a brief outage: on Oct 6, 2026, @lingxi posted "we are temporarily disabling grok @bot voice mode for everyone to address an issue." Users were posting about using voice chat again by Oct 10. If you don't see Start voice chat, clear the message box and update the app.

7 ways founders use Grok Bot from their phone

1. A commute brief by voice. Call your main Bot, ask what needs you today, and hand off two or three tasks out loud. Hang up when you arrive. The Bot keeps working, and the transcript stays in the chat so you can check it later.

2. Approvals from anywhere. Turn on notifications for every Bot that runs routines. The docs say an approval from work that started without you, such as a routine, a trigger, or a message from another Bot, expires after about 10 minutes and doesn't run. Check the recipients, amounts, and targets on the card before you tap Allow once.

3. Capture it on the spot. Snap a receipt, a business card, a whiteboard after a meeting, or a competitor's shelf, then say what to do with it: log the expense, draft a follow-up for your review, or add the notes to a doc.

4. Unblock a stuck Bot. When a Bot needs a login, a two-factor code, or a CAPTCHA, open the computer, Take over, type it yourself, then tap I'm done. Never paste passwords or codes into chat.

5. Steer work in progress. A new message from you takes priority over background work and can redirect it. A direct "Stop now" ends work immediately, but the docs note it doesn't undo actions the Bot already completed.

6. Pause routines while you travel. Open the Bot's profile, review the schedule and Run history, and use Active to pause anything you don't need this week. Turn it back on when you're home.

7. Turn long replies into listening. One user's tip on X: "ask your grok bot to send you a voice note every time it sends you a big paragraph." Handy when you're driving or walking between meetings.

What still needs the desktop (or isn't supported)

Editing a routine's schedule or instruction, and testing a routine, currently require the desktop app. Teach a task (record a demonstration) and "some advanced desktop controls" aren't on mobile either (docs).

Updating or recovering the Bot's computer: Cursor's help center says computer updates aren't available on mobile, and to use desktop Grok Bot to update, recover, or reset the computer.

Routing the Bot's web traffic through your own machine (Route traffic through this computer) and Execution on Local Computer are per-desktop settings. One r/GrokBot user reported they couldn't find an egress toggle in the iOS app, and that the desktop route stops when the desktop is offline.

Your phone's own apps: the docs don't describe any way for a Bot to control apps on your phone, such as WhatsApp, your photo gallery, or iPhone Shortcuts. One user reported on X that their Bot told them it can't control their phone yet. Bots work on their cloud computer and through connectors, so connect services like your email and calendar instead.

One-tap launch: no official home-screen widget or Action Button shortcut is documented. Users have been asking for one on X, and the @grok account said in an Oct 15, 2026 reply that one-tap widgets for quick voice launch aren't available yet, with no public timeline. Some users share workarounds; see our voice guide.

What users report

The upside: "Used Grok Bot today, mostly from my phone. I got more done from my phone with Grok Bot than I usually do sitting at my desk" (@melvindvivas on X, Oct 8, 2026).

Rough edges, as reported by users: an Android user posted on Sep 30, 2026 that photos wouldn't upload in the Android app, and a Google Play reviewer wrote on Sep 18, 2026 that "file outputs do not have a means to simply download to device, only Share to other apps." These may have been fixed since. If something fails, try the share option or open the file on desktop.

What you need

Steps

  1. Download Grok Bot from the App Store (iPhone or iPad) or Google Play (Android). Use the store links on the official mobile docs page so you get the real app.
  2. Open the app, choose Log In or Sign Up, finish authentication in the browser, and return to the app. If your access comes from a SuperGrok subscription, choose Link Grok Account, finish linking in the browser, then choose Finished Linking? Refresh My Status.
  3. Don't pay twice. Cursor's help center says that if your account already includes Grok Bot, access carries into mobile when you sign in with the same account, and you shouldn't buy a second subscription through Apple or Google Play.
  4. Allow notifications when the app asks during first run. Then open each Bot you rely on, tap its name at the top of the chat, and turn on Notifications. Both the phone permission and the Bot's setting must allow it.
  5. Try dictation: tap Start dictation, say your request, then edit the text before you send it.
  6. Try a voice chat: open one Bot's own chat, leave the message box empty, and tap Start voice chat. Hand off a task, hang up, and read the Voice chat card's transcript to catch anything misheard.
  7. Handle your first approval on the phone: check the target, scope, and values on the card, then choose Allow once or Deny. For email and Slack drafts, review the recipients and body before Send Email, Send Message, or Discard.
  8. Leave desktop-only jobs for the desktop: editing or testing routines, Teach a task, and updating or recovering the Bot's computer.

Prompt to copy

I'm working from my phone today. From now on: 1) keep replies to 5 short bullets, and send a voice memo instead of any reply longer than a short paragraph; 2) when I hand you tasks by voice, repeat the list back before you start, and post a written summary in the chat after we hang up; 3) post one update when a task is done or needs my decision, not a running commentary; 4) never send, post, delete, buy, or accept terms without my approval, and show me a draft first. Start with: what needs me today?

Tips

FAQ

Is there a Grok Bot mobile app?

Yes. Grok Bot is on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 18 or later, and iPad with iPadOS 18+) and on Google Play for Android 9 or later. It uses the same Bots, conversations, routines, connectors, and cloud computer as the desktop app.

Is Grok Bot available on Android?

Yes, on Android 9 or later through Google Play. The docs describe the same conversation features on both platforms, with one documented difference: Android's share sheet currently accepts only text, while iPhone's also takes photos, files, and links.

Can I talk to Grok Bot by voice on my phone?

Yes. Tap Start dictation to speak a message you can edit, or Start voice chat (with an empty message box) for a live call with one Bot. Bots can also send voice memos you play in the chat. Voice chat doesn't work in group chats.

Do I have to pay again to use Grok Bot on my phone?

Not if your account already includes Grok Bot. Sign in with the same account and access carries over. Cursor's help center says not to buy a second subscription through Apple or Google Play in that case.

Does Grok Bot keep working when I close the app?

Yes. Work runs on the Bot's cloud computer, so closing the app or locking your phone doesn't stop a task or routine.

Can I approve Grok Bot actions from my phone?

Yes. Approval cards offer Allow once, Always allow, and Deny, and email or Slack drafts show Send Email or Send Message, or Discard. Approvals from routines expire after about 10 minutes, so keep notifications on.

What can't I do in the Grok Bot mobile app?

Per the docs, editing a routine's schedule or instruction, testing a routine, Teach a task, and some advanced desktop controls need the desktop app. Cursor's help center also says computer updates aren't available on mobile.

Can Grok Bot control apps on my phone?

Not as documented. Bots work on their own cloud computer and through connectors, not inside your phone's apps like WhatsApp, Photos, or Shortcuts. Connect services like your email and calendar instead.

Is there a Grok Bot widget or Action Button shortcut?

No official one is documented. Users have asked for it on X, and the @grok account said in an Oct 15, 2026 reply that one-tap widgets for quick voice launch aren't available yet. Some users share workarounds; treat those as community tips.
