How to set up your first Grok Bot
Install the app, create a Bot, write its job description and boundaries, and hand it one real, low-risk task before you automate anything.
What you need
- The Grok Bot app
- One task you already do by hand
- Access to the accounts that task touches
Steps
- Install the desktop app (macOS, Windows, or Linux) or the iOS/Android app.
- Create a Bot and put its job, source systems, output format, and standing boundaries in its description.
- Use Connect apps in the sidebar to add connectors. Prefer a connector over browser automation when one exists.
- Run one real task with a safe scope (read and prepare, don't send).
- Correct the result until you'd sign off on it, then save the process as a skill and test it on a second input.
- Create a routine only once you know how it should handle failures, and keep sending, deleting, and purchasing behind approval.
Prompt to copy
You are my Inbox Bot. Source: my work email. Each morning, list emails that need my reply with a one-line reason and a draft. Never send, delete, or unsubscribe without asking me.
Tips
- Type / in the desktop composer to use a saved skill and @ for Bots, groups, routines, and connectors.
- Cmd/Ctrl+D starts dictation on desktop.
- Enter passwords, 2FA codes, and CAPTCHAs yourself when the Bot hands you control. Don't paste secrets in chat.
FAQ
Should I make one Bot or many?
Start with one Bot that owns one repeatable outcome. Add more when the jobs are clearly different.
What's a good first task?
A real read-and-prepare task across a few tools with a clear finish line, ending in drafts you approve.
