Turn repeat tasks into scheduled routines
Do a task by hand with the agent until the result is right, then schedule it so it runs on its own.
What you need
- A task you repeat at least weekly
- A clear definition of 'done'
Steps
- Pick one repeat task: a weekly pipeline summary, a Friday content recap, a Monday inbox cleanup.
- Run it manually with Grok Bot and correct the output until you would ship it as-is.
- Ask the agent to write the final instructions down as a SKILL.md file so the steps are fixed.
- Schedule the routine (for example every Monday at 8am) and have it report back in chat.
- Review the first few runs and tighten the instructions where it drifts.
Prompt to copy
We just did this task together. Write the exact steps as a reusable SKILL.md with a name, description, inputs, and step list, so you can run it the same way every week.
Tips
- One project per routine keeps context small.
- Move repetitive formatting into a script the agent runs.
- Use Test run after creating or editing a routine. A test run does real work, so use safe inputs.
- Manage routines from the Bot: View conversation details → Routines (pause, edit, test, see run history, delete).
FAQ
What is the difference between a skill and a routine?
A skill describes how to do a task. A routine assigns a workflow to one Bot and tells it when to run, on a schedule or, where supported, after an event.
Do routines run when my computer is off?
Yes. Routines run on the Bot's cloud computer, so closing your laptop or phone doesn't stop them.
