Use Grok Bot to search flights and plan a trip (and which travel sites block it)
Give a Bot your route, dates, and rules, and it compares fares on sites that allow agents, returns a shortlist, and stops before booking. Many travel sites block automated agents; in one user's October 2026 test, Google Flights was the only major travel site that worked.
What you need
- Trip details: origin, destination, dates or flexibility, travelers, and bags
- Your rules: budget, max stops, earliest and latest times, preferred airlines or loyalty programs
- An approval rule for anything that books, pays, or redeems points
- Optional: connected email and calendar, so the Bot can check conflicts and collect confirmations afterward
Steps
- Put your travel rules in the Bot's description once: home airports, seat and bag preferences, loyalty programs, and the standing rule 'never book, pay, or redeem points without my approval.'
- Ask for a fare search with a clear finish line: a short table, not a booking. Include total price with bags, airline, departure and arrival times, stops, layover length, and a link for each option.
- Point it at sites that work. Many travel and e-commerce sites block automated agents or show CAPTCHAs. In one user's test, Google Flights was the only major travel site that let the Bot search. Tell the Bot to skip or hand back blocked sites instead of working around them.
- Ask it to check the shortlist against your calendar and flag conflicts, tight connections, and red-eyes.
- Pick an option. If you want the Bot to book, approve the action, then use Take over to sign in, pay, and enter 2FA codes yourself. Choose I'm done and tell the Bot to continue.
- After booking, have it pull the confirmation from your inbox into one itinerary and propose calendar events for each leg. Approve them before they're created.
- If you fly a route often, save the search as a skill. Then add a routine that reruns it on a schedule and reports only when the total price beats your target.

Find round-trip flights from [origin] to [destination], leaving [date range] and returning [date range], for [travelers] with [bags]. Max one stop, layovers under 3 hours, no departures before 7am. Start with Google Flights; skip any site that blocks you or shows a CAPTCHA and tell me which ones. Return the 5 best options in a table with total price including bags, airline, times, stops, layover length, and a link. Check each against my calendar. Do not book, pay, or use points; wait for my approval.
Tips
- Ask for the total price with bags and seat fees. The headline fare is often not what you pay.
- Check the final price and times on the booking page before you approve. Fares change fast, and time zones trip people up.
- Never paste card numbers, passwords, or one-time codes into chat. Use Take over for logins and payment.
- Run a fare-watch routine once or twice a day and add 'If nothing changed, say so and stop.' Frequent checks drain your weekly usage.
- Users report Bots handling whole trips from a text, including flights, rental cars, stays, and dinner reservations, and one Bot noticed a changed flight didn't match an Uber reservation. Start with search and shortlist, then add booking once you trust the output.
- A dedicated travel Bot keeps your travel preferences in one place. All your Bots share one computer and its logins, though, so a separate Bot isn't a security boundary.
FAQ
Can Grok Bot book flights?
Yes, on sites that allow it, and users have reported booking flights, rental cars, and stays through their Bots. Keep booking and payment behind approval, and enter payment details and 2FA yourself when the Bot hands you control.
Why do travel sites block Grok Bot?
Many sites block automated agents or require logins and CAPTCHAs. Per the official FAQ, the Bot should hand those steps to you rather than bypass them.
Does Grok Bot work with Google Flights?
One user reported in October 2026 that Google Flights worked for fare searches when other major travel sites blocked the Bot. Site behavior changes, so treat that as a starting point, not a guarantee.
Will Grok Bot find the cheapest flight?
Not guaranteed. It can only compare sites it can reach, so it can miss fares on sites that block it. Check the final price yourself before you approve.
Can Grok Bot watch for fare drops?
Yes. Save the search as a skill and create a routine that reruns it on a schedule and reports only when the price beats your target. Test the routine first; a test run does real work.
