What's new in Grok Bot (Oct 16): 3x faster computer tasks, X Chat, new connectors, and more

On Oct 16, 2026, the official @bot account announced a Grok Bot update: computer tasks finish 3x sooner on average, other replies arrive in less than half the time, voice calls are faster with better memory, Bots can read X Chat, new connectors (Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, eToro), marketplace connector submissions for teams, email plus-aliases, @bot tagging on X, and a new design. Here's what each one means and how to use it.

Faster computer tasks and replies

From the @bot thread: "Grok Bot is much faster. Computer tasks finish 3x sooner on average, and replies to everything else arrive in less than half the time." Those are xAI's own averages. Your tasks may vary.

Elon Musk quote-posted it the same day: "Grok @Bot got much faster." X's API showed that post at 2,682,029 impressions as of Oct 17, 2026, ~5:30–5:50am CT (source: X API public metrics, via our trend scan).

How to use it: tasks you gave up on because they were slow, such as a browser-heavy research pass or filling a long web form, are worth a second try this week. Time one before and after so you know what changed for you.

Faster voice with better memory

From the thread: "Voice calls with Grok Bot are faster, more reliable, and better at remembering past conversations."

How to use it: start a voice chat with one Bot (empty message box, then Start voice chat), hand off two or three tasks, and refer back to something you discussed on an earlier call. Check the transcript afterward to catch anything misheard. Our mobile guide covers the steps.

Grok Bot can read X Chat

From the thread: "Grok Bot can now read X Chat. Connect X, then ask Bot to work across your messages."

Elon Musk's take (an opinion, not a feature claim): "Ask Grok @Bot to connect to your X DMs. Best way to use it." X's API showed that post at 1,135,450 impressions as of Oct 17, 2026, ~5:30–5:50am CT.

How to use it: connect X, then ask for a daily list of messages that need you, with a one-line reason each and a suggested reply. Keep replying as your own step. A draft you approve is much safer than a Bot speaking for you in DMs.

New connectors: Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, eToro

From the thread: "Grok Bot now connects to Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, eToro, and more." Find them in Connect apps.

How to use them, as a founder: PostHog for a weekly product-analytics summary, Trello for turning meeting notes into cards, beehiiv for drafting newsletter issues you review before sending. Investing connectors (Robinhood, Coinbase, eToro) are best used read-only: portfolio summaries and alerts, with every trade behind your approval.

A safety note from xAI's Oct 11 changelog: after a bank or brokerage connector returns data, the Bot asks before sharing it anywhere else.

Teams can submit connectors to the marketplace

From the thread: "Teams can also now submit connectors to the Grok Bot marketplace."

Why it matters: if your company makes a tool, this is a new way to show up where Grok Bot users connect apps. The thread doesn't describe the submission steps, so check Connect apps and the official docs for the current process.

Email plus-aliases for routines

From the thread: "Grok Bot's email now supports plus aliases, so you can set a routine to run only on mail sent to one address."

How to use it: give each job its own address in the usual plus-alias format, for example yourbot+invoices@mail.grokbot.com for receipts and yourbot+leads@mail.grokbot.com for your site's contact form. Then set one routine per address. Each routine only wakes for its own mail, which keeps runs small and your weekly usage under control.

Tag @bot on X to start work

From the thread: "Tag @bot in a post on X and Grok Bot gets to work."

Where it works: per an Oct 16, 2026 reply from the @grok account, tagging @bot "isn't available yet for X accounts based in the EU (also UK, Australia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway). It uses the country on record for your account. You can still assign tasks directly in the Grok Bot app."

How to use it: reply to a useful post with '@bot save this to my reading list and summarize it tomorrow morning.' Our @bot tagging guide covers setup.

New design and smarter notifications

From the thread: "Cards in chat have a new design with a cleaner layout," and "Grok Bot has a refreshed look with a new typeface and themes."

Also in the thread: "Notifications now go only to the device you're using." If you use desktop and phone, you'll stop getting the same ping twice.

What this means for founders

Speed was the most common complaint about Grok Bot, and this update goes straight at it. Faster computer tasks make browser-heavy jobs practical. Plus-aliases make routines cheaper to run. New connectors mean less browser automation and more direct access to the tools you already use.

This is moving fast. A setup you write off as too slow this month may be the one that saves you hours next month, so it's a good week to try something new.

Not on the official changelog yet: when we checked x.ai/changelog/bot on Oct 17, 2026, the latest entry was v0.70.2 (Oct 11). Everything above comes from the @bot thread and the @grok reply linked below. Features roll out gradually, so go by what you see in your app.

What you need

Steps

  1. Update the app and look for the new card design and themes to confirm you have the update.
  2. Re-run one slow computer task you gave up on and time it.
  3. Connect X, then ask your Bot for a daily list of X messages that need you, with drafts you approve.
  4. Open Connect apps and add any of the new connectors you already use (Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, eToro).
  5. Give one routine its own plus-alias address so it only runs on that mail.
  6. Outside the EU, UK, Australia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway: tag @bot on a post to send a task from X.

I just got the Oct 16 Grok Bot update. Look at my Bots, routines, and connected apps and suggest three ways to use it: one slow task worth re-running now that computer tasks are faster, one routine that should get its own plus-alias email address, and one new connector (Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, or eToro) that fits my work. Don't change anything yet; show me the plan.
